Meblościanka 2008

THE IDEA

The "Meblościanka 2008" (Polish for "wall unit set") Design Workshops is an attempt at merging the typology associated with the communist era of the Polish People’s Republic with contemporary culture. Thanks to the Workshops and creative ideas contributed by young designers, the wall unit set, so closely associated with tiny apartments in residential blocks, now stands a chance of gaining a completely different dimension. The Workshops will be run by Tomek Rygalik, one of Poland's best recognised designers, currently working in London.

The international Workshops will involve a group of thirty young designers and art school students from all over Poland, as well as selected students of the prestigious Royal College of Art in London. Visitors will have an opportunity to see the successive stages of design works throughout the duration of the Workshops. Meblościanka is a truly unique project on the Polish scale. According to its assumption, the Workshops are to serve as a communication platform and an attempt to show diverse approaches to design and foster the exchange of experiences between designers from all corners of the world.

The effects of the Workshops, i.e. high-quality prototypes and furniture implementations, will be shown at prominent exhibitions in Poland and abroad in 2008 and 2009.

The Workshops are organised by Meble VOX. Co-organisers include the Poznań International Fair and the Marshal’s Office of the Wielkopolska Region. The partner of the project is the Royal College Art in London.
